In the Input Fields view, you decide how users change a text in your template. A text input field controls the content of a text: whatever users type or choose in the design generator appears in the design. How to create one is explained in Create an input field: let users change a text or image.
You open the settings in the Input Fields view with the gear on the right of the input field and close them with Done. Title, Description and Variable name are the same for all input fields. They are explained in Input field settings.
There are two field types:
- Text: users type a text themselves.
- Text Selection: users choose a text you set.
Text
The default value is the text the element had before.
- Allow multiline: lets users add their own line breaks. On by default.
- Show character count: shows users how many characters they have typed. Useful when you use a character limit. Off by default.
- Show clear button: shows a button that empties the input field with one click. It only appears once the input field contains text. Off by default.
Three settings limit the length of the text. When you turn one on, it starts with the value in brackets:
- Limit total number of characters: at most this many characters in the whole text (100).
- Limit total number of lines: at most this many lines (10).
- Limit the number of characters per line: at most this many characters in each line (50).
The limits don't stop users from typing. Text over a limit is left out of the design, and users see a red warning icon.
Text Selection
Users choose from texts you set. How to add the options is explained in Offer a selection: let users choose from set texts or images.
- Text options: the texts users choose from. Each option is one row:
- Value: the text that appears in the design.
- Custom label: gives the option a label of its own. When it is on, you type it under Label. Users see the label instead of the text.
- Drag the handle on the left to move the option. The trash can deletes it. One option always has to stay.
- Add option: adds an option. It is a copy of the last option.
- Type: Dropdown or Buttons. Dropdown by default.
The default value is the option you select in the input field in the Input Fields view.
In the design generator, users see a dropdown menu with the hint "Select option" for Dropdown, and one button per option for Buttons. On a phone, the design generator shows Buttons as a dropdown menu.
