Pre-fill input fields with LinkedIn data

Last updated October 22, 2026

In the template editor you give input fields fixed variable names, and in your campaign you switch on pre-fill with LinkedIn. Users then sign in with LinkedIn in the design generator, and their name, email address and profile picture are already in the input fields. This works in web campaigns and through the link of a widget campaign. If the design generator is embedded in a website, signing in with LinkedIn isn't available.

This takes three steps:

  1. Rename the variables of the input fields in the Input Fields view.
  2. Switch on pre-fill in the campaign under Social Connections.
  3. Test the sign-in in the design generator.

Rename the variables

In the Input Fields view you see all input fields of your template and configure them.

  1. Click Input Fields at the top right of the toolbar in the template editor. The Input Fields view opens.
Toolbar top right with the Input Fields button highlighted.
  2. Click the gear on the right of the input field that should get LinkedIn data. The settings open.
  3. Click the pencil to the right of the variable name.
Top of the input field settings with the variable name, its copy button and the pencil highlighted.
  4. Type one of these names, spelled exactly like this, in capital letters:
    • For a text input field:
      • LINKEDIN_NAME: full name
      • LINKEDIN_GIVEN_NAME: first name
      • LINKEDIN_FAMILY_NAME: last name
      • LINKEDIN_EMAIL: email address
    • For an image input field:
      • LINKEDIN_PICTURE: profile picture

Settings of the Photo input field: the variable name LINKEDIN_PICTURE with its copy button and pencil highlighted.
  5. Click the checkmark. The input field now gets the matching value from LinkedIn as soon as a user signs in.
    The name turns red?

Each variable name can only be used once in a template. Another input field already has this name. Give the other input field a different name first.

  6. Click Done. The settings close. Do the same for every other input field that should get LinkedIn data.

Switch on pre-fill in the campaign

In the Social Connections step you decide what users can do with their finished design. This is also where you switch on the LinkedIn sign-in. Your template has to be in a web or widget campaign for this. How to create one is described in Create a campaign.

  1. Click Campaigns in the Studio navigation. The overview of your campaigns opens.
  2. Click the card of your campaign. The campaign opens.
  3. Click Social Connections at the top.
The Social Connections step is missing?

Team campaigns don't have a Social Connections step. Pre-fill with LinkedIn is only available in web and widget campaigns.

  4. Tick Pre-fill Templates with data from LinkedIn under Verifiable Targets. The hint "How to pre-fill your template" with the five variable names appears below. Pre-fill is now switched on. You don't need the LinkedIn switch for it: the sign-in also works if users don't share their design on LinkedIn.

Test the sign-in in the design generator

The design generator is the page where users fill in your template and export their design. Here you test the sign-in the way users see it.

  1. Click Share at the top of your campaign.
  2. Click Copy URL and open the link in a new browser tab. The design generator opens.
  3. Look at the Continue with LinkedIn popup. It opens by itself after a moment. With Skip for now, users can close it and fill in everything themselves.
The popup doesn't open by itself?

If you already clicked Skip for now in this browser tab, it no longer opens by itself. Click the LinkedIn logo with the plus at the top. This is the Connect with LinkedIn button.

  4. Click Continue with LinkedIn and sign in to LinkedIn. Afterwards you are back in the design generator.
  5. Check that the input fields and the design show your name, your email address and your profile picture.

  6. Test the same with a LinkedIn account that lacks, for example, a profile picture. This shows you what the design looks like when LinkedIn doesn't provide a value.
