Create an instruction: give users a hint in the form

In the Input Fields view, an instruction adds a short hint to the form, for example an introduction to the next input fields. Users read it in the design generator, but they can't type into it. An instruction doesn't change anything in the design.

This takes two steps:

1. Create the instruction in the Input Fields view.
2. Test the instruction in the design generator.

Create the instruction

The Input Fields view shows all input fields of your template, and you configure them there.

1. Click Input Fields at the top right of the toolbar. The Input Fields view opens.
   
2. Click Instruction in the bar above the list. The new instruction is now at the very top of the list and selected.
   You can't click Instruction?

   While input fields are selected, the button is switched off. Selected input fields have a tick on their left. Click these ticks to deselect them.

   
   
3. Click the gear on the right of the instruction. The settings open.
4. Type your hint under Instruction. Users see it as text in the form in the design generator.
5. Type these settings too if you need them:
   • Title: a heading above the hint. Users see it with an info icon in front.
   • Description (tooltip with more information): a second, smaller line below the hint. For an instruction, this is not a tooltip.
6. Click Done. The instruction now shows your hint.
7. Drag the instruction by the handle with the three lines at its top left to the place in the list where users need the hint. In the form, the hint now appears right there.
8. Click × at the top right to close the Input Fields view.

Test the instruction in the design generator

The design generator is the page where users fill in your template and export their design. There you see the instruction the way users see it.

1. When you are done with your input fields, click Share at the top right and then Publish Template Link. If you have published the template before, the menu item is called Open Template Campaign. A popup with the share settings opens. Your template can now be reached through a link.
2. Click Copy URL and open the link in a new browser tab. The design generator opens.
3. Look for your hint in the form. Check that it is in the right place. The input fields are numbered, the instruction has no number.
