Under Templates in the navigation at the top, every template card has a menu. With it you rename, copy, move or delete a template and control its link. How folders work is in Template folders and private drafts.
You open the menu from the card's preview: Hover over the preview. Three dots appear at the bottom right. When you hover over them, the menu opens.
Menu entries
- Widget link: opens the template's design generator in a new tab. The entry is always there, but grey while the template link is not live.
- Delete URL: switches the template link off. People who open it no longer reach the design generator. The entry only appears once you have published the template with Publish Template Link.
- Reactivate URL: switches a template link that was switched off back on. It takes the place of Delete URL.
- Open in Batch Editor: opens the template in the Batch Editor. On the Free plan the entry is grey.
- Rename: opens the Rename Template popup. There you type the new name and confirm with Rename.
- URL alias: publishes the template at a readable image address, for example
image.bluepic.io/<scope>/<alias>.png. Calling that address returns the design as a finished image. It is not a link to the design generator. In the popup you choose Scope and Alias and confirm with Save. Once the template has an alias, the entry says URL alias (published). Remove alias deletes it again. Automate: create images by URL and API has more. - Duplicate: creates a copy in the same folder. The copy is named like the original with "Copy" added. In the Archive the entry says Duplicate (not in the Archive) and is grey.
- Move: opens the Select Folder popup. There you choose the folder and confirm with Move. You then land in that folder.
- Move to Archive: moves the template straight into the Archive. The entry only appears in teams and not inside the Archive itself.
- Delete: deletes the template for good, after asking you. If a campaign uses the template, the entry says Delete (used by campaigns) and is grey.
Buttons on the preview
When you hover over the preview, buttons for common actions appear at the bottom left:
- Edit opens the template in the template editor. Clicking the card does the same.
- Rename and Duplicate do the same as in the menu. Duplicate is missing in the Archive.
- Widget link only appears for templates that have a template link.
Several templates at once
When you hover over the preview, a round checkmark appears at the top left. Clicking it selects the template. While something is selected, clicking a card selects or deselects it instead of opening it.
Select all at the top of the folder selects all templates in it at once. The button then says Deselect all and clears the selection again.
As soon as something is selected, Move, Duplicate and Delete appear next to Select all. They act on all selected templates.
Deleting
- Delete asks before it deletes. If your team has an Archive and you are not already in it, the confirmation also offers Move to Archive. That way you put the template away instead of deleting it.
- You can't delete a template that a campaign uses. If you selected several and some are used by a campaign, Delete in the bar is grey. The hint says how many are affected. You can delete it once you have removed it from the campaign or deleted the campaign. If Bluepic refuses the deletion, the "Cannot delete templates" popup names the campaigns that use it.
- In a team, every member can also move and delete colleagues' templates.
Moving and duplicating
- Into Drafts, Archive or Presets a template can't go if a campaign uses it. The "Cannot move templates" popup names the campaigns.
- If the template link is live and you move the template into Drafts, Archive or Presets, the "The template link goes offline" popup warns you. Move anyway moves it regardless, and the link stops working. You can switch it back on later with Reactivate URL.
- Template limit: every canvas of a template in a regular folder counts toward your plan's template limit. Moving a template out of Drafts, Archive or Presets, or duplicating it in a regular folder, needs room in the template limit. If there isn't enough, "Not enough design generator slots" appears and nothing happens. How templates and assets count towards your limits explains how to make room.
